As a young girl, Danielle dreamed of playing tennis at Wimbledon. From the age of 9, she played tennis at a local club in Glen Waverley, and as a junior, was a runner-up in the girls' doubles at the 1987 Australian Open. She toured professionally in the 1990s and realised her dream of playing at Wimbledon, where she competed eight times in doubles tournaments. Over the course of her career, Danielle featured in the main doubles draw of all four grand slam tournaments, as well as appearing seven times at the Australian Open.
After 10 years of travelling with the women’s professional tour, Danielle settled in the Waverley area. She wanted to help the local tennis community and pass on the knowledge she’d learned from playing and coaching overseas.
In 2000, Danielle started coaching at the Tally Ho Tennis Club with just four pupils. She has grown the club considerably and with 14 teams now in the Waverley district, her pupils are strong competitors in the junior competition.
Danielle is passionate about her students having fun, and her enthusiasm cultivates a love for the great game of tennis. She has created a strong family environment at the club, and encourages everyone to join in.
Prior to COVID-19, Danielle was running a range of activities and classes, including Hot Shots programs for children aged 5 to 10 years, as well as private and group lessons for all standards and ages. She’d also introduced programs for ladies and mums, but unfortunately the lockdowns have had a big impact on her business. During the first lockdown, she was still able to coach private lessons, but face-to-face lessons had to stop during the second lockdown.
To encourage her younger players to keep up their skills and stay active, Danielle has developed some fun workout drills for her pupils to try at home during lockdown.
"I can’t wait to get back on the courts and see my pupils and clients again."
